Google Sitemaps keeps going down often for 2 days at time. WHY?
This service is unavailable. Please check back later.

Nearly every day when I click on my site inside Sitemaps to see the indexing stats, I get this error response from Google's server:

"This service is unavailable. Please check back later."

Sitemaps goes down for days at a time.

Are you guys noticing this too?

I thus have written this limerick for the Sitemaps folks:

There once was an engine called Google
With Sitemaps so slow you just Doodle
Tried to log in to Sitemaps,
With worse odds than with Craps,
Might as well go walk the Poodle!

I couldn't access the indexing stats on Friday. I will have to see if they are available today.

He he he, nice limerick. :-)

Yeah, I've noticed it too - seemed to be for a number of days, now the stats are back. Not impressive to have part of a production system go down like that, but such is life. Same thing happened with Google Analytics yesterday - the date from the day before were missing, and they reported 0 visitors and 0 pageviews instead, and it took quite a while for the page to be finished - some db timeout probably. Now it's working as expected again.
