It's still a multicolored blob in the US-- for both Advanced and plain search-- but I do remember seeing the blue one ...

blob in chrome and opera-- but blue g for google.ca in both
blue g in randomly selected other country in Camino
I think it's about caching. If you go to some google you haven't been to recently, or in a browser you don't normally use, you get the blue g.
