I've got some content that I'd like to syndicate to other sites. I can handle creating the RSS feed, but what I don't know how to incorporate the feed onto a standard HTML page. If another site wants to use my feed, is there any way they can tie into it without having any special scripts installed on their server? In other words, is there any way I can create cut-and-paste code to give other site owners so they can display my RSS content with no special setup?

I'm aware this may be a deep subject; if there's no simple answer, further resources would be appreciated.

On standard blog software like MovableType or Blogger what is usually done is a simple link to the RSS file. It is assumed that the user will know what to do if they want to add the link to their aggregator or syndicate the data otherwise.

If you want more control over the syndication then this usually involves JavaScript. If you check out places like Topix, who offer feeds for use on your site, you can see that they have a JavaScript cut-and-paste for webmasters to use.

There are several websites available which offer kind of proxy service which allows anyone to include any (e.g. your) RSS feed into his website using a piece of Javascript or an IFRAME (or a PHP include) with configurable layout etc.

I am not sure if I am allowed to show URLs here? In addition I run such a site by myself but I think it would be against the TOS to mention it here. You could PM me for further information.

If you have a javascript process the rss feed to display on a web page are links counted that point to your site?

Does anyone know where some scripts might be? Or how about a PHP/asp/cfm script to get the RSS feed and process to the page?

I am working on a site I would like to be able to offer to related sites the ability to link to my site in this way. :)

Use a PHP server side parser, to display RSS feed in HTML . Many free PHP scripts are available that are fairly easy to configure. One example of such a script is CarpKoi. There are a few more that I know.

Hi Matthew,

Here's a useful one: a link which allows a visitor to add your RSS feed to their personal yahoo page. Just insert your own RSS URL into the bracketed part below.

<a href="http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=http://[URL to your RSS XML]"><img src="http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/my/addtomyyahoo2.gif"></a>
