|I don't get it.|
How can you be #1 in MSN and hard to find in Google?

When I search on <my keyword>, I show up as 1 of 1,016,502 results. Makes me feel pretty special.
Why was it so easy do that at MSN and so hard at Yahoo and Google, where I have lousy results?

I think the specifics in your post are against the WebmasterWorld TOS.
You might want to edit it out.
Despite your high PR, I am surprised that you show up in MSN. I couldn't find a single word of text on your entry page. Why do you expect to rank on SEs at all. With Your PR adding a sentence to that page would likely put you in top 10 in G for at least one 2 word combo term of that sentence.

Darnit, I was trying not to violate the TOS, and now I can't figure out how to edit my own post. (I can do it on my own site!) Owner edit disappeared after your post (by design, I'm sure.)
Anyway, I'm not a programmer, I'm a network guy. I'm a little shocked by your reply, as I paid good money for a real programmer to write my site. I'm even having a tough time understanding your post, and I used to think I was a pretty smart guy!
Do you mean my index.htm? If you'd be so kind as to email me a sentence or two of exactly what to do, the learning process will begin.
Thanks for your reply!

Sorry for the acronyms. I think the site is graphically pleasing. But it is all graphics and the text is made of a jpeg image. Google can but I believe normally does not use text recognition to read the text in the image. I am sticky mailing you what search engines see on your site.
There is not all that much to index on your index.html
However I have no doubt that you receive search traffic to your forum.

True that everything in the foreground is image, but the background is a light-contrast repeating text of search terms. Does that count for anything? Or does it hurt more than it helps?

I missed those. But so did the spider view that I sent you. IMHO you might be penalized for keyword stuffing but I am no expert. I think it would be safer to sit down and compose a few sentences made of those words which relate to your genre. Again please remember I am not an expert.
