I have seen a few sites bounce in and out (for keywords - the site always remains indexed) for seemingly no reason - the ranks usually come back after a few days to a week or so (not talking dropping from #2 to #23 - this is from #2 to no where).

I am seeing the same thing.. When checking my site for duplicate contents I find they have been copied recently by others..

My site was #2 on Msn for quite awhile.
Last night it disapeered. I tried searching by domain name but home page does not show up only the inner pages.
No matter what i search I can't get any page of teh site to show up unless I search by domain name.
Anyone know what this is, was my site banned for no reason.

I thought it was just me, happened a few days ago to me as well. All my IBLs and indexed pages are still there, I've changed a few things but not enough to arrant what happened. I've just vanished from their SERPs. I hovered from page 1 to page 2 for some important keywords, now I'm absolutely nowhere (I gave up looking for placement after page 15 or so on both keywords). I really hope this is temporary as the gentleman before said.... Anyone else?

I was doing very well in MSN until this morning, most keywords are still placing well, but my homepage is completely gone! Site is completely white hat, totally unique, content rich, blah blah blah, is this a fluke? Or is it gone permanently... Scary.

Same for me got a response from MSN.
They said your site is in our index if you search by www.widgets .com. Please use our msn search optimization service to improve your rankings.
smells like a penalty to me , similar to a Yahoo response for there penalty.

The gave me the same stupid reply when I asked them almost a week ago what had happened. I have several sites that completely dropped out of the rankings for keywords, and on top of that have not been visited by an MSN bot or had a cache update in a week now. It is clear to me MSN is messed up and has been messed up for the last week. Whether it is an algo change underway or whatever, it is screwed up.

thank god! I thought i was the only one who went from page ONE into the black hole of msn! I was doing fairly well and getting good traffic for a competitive key phrase which also meant increasing Adsense revenue. Then .... kaput... nada .... zilch. I am now nowhere to be found. It's taken a big bite out of my stats! Anybody out there who can help put my mind at ease? Is this a temporary thing?

Ditto. My results for my top site completed disappeared. I was #1 for all my top terms, then poof, I am gone. Something big is going on over there.

same with me, I had a good position among the first 10 for several months, since 2 days it is gone to nowhere. Same thing happened with another domain, its gone in the serps, when I type in the page the main url is gone and only subpages can be found. quite strange missgirl

My home page came back in the index. but still not in the results today. This is Joan and I understand that your website has been indexed on MSN Search and now it is not. I was ranked in the to 2 for 4 strong keywords on MSN. My main page is no longer indexed but all my other sub pages are. This happened on 9/30 early morning. I really don't know what's going on... I hope this thing gets resolved soon.

Anybody know what was the criteria that caused the previously indexed sites to be dropped? My site was not modified or changed in any way and the server was not down. There has been an increase in MSNbot visits and still, I've been flushed down the MSN loo!

For my main keyword, my index page jumped from the boondocks up to middle of page 2.
Studying the other pages there, it looks like a lot of off-topic and
spammy sites got dropped. This is all in my narrow niche of course. -Larry

Ditto here as well. Saw this happen a month or so ago and suddenly all was restored. Wondered if MSN were tweaking databases and SERPS ready for the inclusion of their new PPC?

Good News :-) I woke up this morning and my index page is back on MSN. with my keywords in the top 2-3 position. It took 3 days to get indexed again.

Things back to good for most of my sites. Showing up with correct cache, and have my spots again. One site not back in yet, but it just heavily spidered by MSN early today so I think it will start showing up again tomorrow.

Glad to see sites are coming back for most people - however my sites still seem to be nowhere to be seen. Checked some stats this morning and the number of visits was back up and MSNbot has been doing a bit of spidering so thats good news. Last visit was early this morning. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it - lets hope my sites are next to come up :) Keep you all posted.

Whew, my sites back, and has moved to the 1st page for almost every keyword! My site is 99% quality text and had been behind spam sites. Many of the garbage spam sites that were ahead of me are nowhere to be seen. I'm very impressed MSN!

Well my rankings are slowly but surely coming back upto the top of the SERPS. About half have been put back to where they were and I am sure the rest will follow. Here's to more good times with MSN :)

can someone please give me the exact definition of a spam site? can having a reciprocal link to a spam site cause your site to be down-ranked? if it does, how does one safeguard themselves from accidentally linking to a spam site? is there a way to check if it's a spam site?
