Good catch seasalt! A little while back I mentioned that we were using the data gathered from the recent crawls as part of a preview of an algorithmic search engine that we are building. More details on the preview are now available at at [sandbox.msn.com....] We would really like any and all feedback. You can post it here or send it to us using the various feedback mechanisms on the results page. -msndude (msd)

Ok. So now when do you launch a toolbar with a PageRank...er... WebRank... er... um... maybe NetRank? ;) Congrats on the preview launch! [edited by: jcoronella at 3:49 am (utc) on July 1, 2004]

I am starting to see it too, but it seems like something that could be corrected with an "other pages from..." type solution.

It does look nice, and I like my SERPS ;) Doing a search for a unique keyword I found only a dozen or so results, where on google or yahoo the results are in the hundreds... Skeleton database? or maybe they're chopping off old links? Interesting in any case, I like the little ranking rainbows..

I've found a couple searches that give an excessive number of results from the same domain. I'll look for a search that isn't so specific to me ;) You've decided to leave the ► 's in eh? So spammy looking.

It seems to like sites that link out to others of the same category- a LOT.

Looks like link text rules but ya need content to go with the links. One search showed 8 of the top 15 results all very similar all from the same site. In some cases, the results may be a little stacked [techpreview.search.msn.com]. Nice clean interface. Seems like it take more links to get in than Google or maybe the db is just smaller during the test phase.

Sweet results. However, on one particular three word query phrase that I follow, of the first 45 results, 31 of them were from domains that we run. Of the first 30, 29 were ours. Not complaining, but with these kinds of results, I've started to dust off the Retire-in-Tahiti brochures.

I dominate ALL the top listings for my field. I don't want that anymore. Can I submit to have sites taken out?

| Yes I am seeing a whole lot of that too. Definitally something that needs to be corrected.

You know when the top 5 results for a 400,000+ overture search term that is extremely competitive all have PR0 that something is not quite right. Still, very interesting. As a side note, the link:http://www.domain.com command appears to be showing a very comprehensive list of links.

this sucks. I searched for "main keyword" and my sitename.com, sites that link to me are ahead.

domain name/URL seems to rank heavy for a couple initial searches in one of my widget areas... will be interesting to see/hear what others notice... also, is msd legit? if so, WebmasterWorld is attracting most/all of the players, which is good, imho. ;) -kpaul edit to add: seeing a lot of multiple listings for domains. while as a webmaster i like it for my keywords, as a user it's a little annoying. i want a variety... wow, interesting! Glad to know that those who thought it was just a big hype/vapourware are coming into line. As for the search results, not bad at all - noticed a lot of my sites in there, excellent :) But yeah, theres that problem of domain clustering, is there any way to turn it off msndude? Sid

| I disagree. Google PR has zero credability these days. It is bought and paid for like a cheap.... nm. You get the picture. There are many pr0 pages that are way more relaevant then pr8 pages. Sorry that is just how it is.

One area I do give high marks to Google and Yahoo for is there type is more readable. Is it me or do most MS internet products not seem to take into account the visually impaired? I think they need to brighten their type and resize it. I always have to fall back to Google because of this.

Results are displayed very quickly... lots of snap. Results seem weighted heavily on keywords found in the URL, and many, many listings from the same domains for pages and pages. There will have to be a way to surpress that. Overall, I like it.

Worked in Opera for me. Tried small screen, user styles, all working. Don't know about the results though, they seemed very spammy. On a search barely even related to malls or shopping I got a page of Same Title citymall.com Same Title anothercitymall.com Same Title anothermall.com

Except for the 'multiple listings from the same domain' mentioned by others, this looks to really have potential. If they don't 'over do it' on PPC stuff, they may have a winnner!
