Obviously designed to drive foot traffic, very much like how Yahoo Local intended to do also, who beat everyone to the punch with their local service.
Google now ties in their very popular shopping engine, Froogle, to their or a separate Local service that maps stores that carry particular products. I haven't seen anyone mention or post a comment regarding this yet so i thought i would do the honors.
Would small businesses now have to adapt & produce small product feeds so that they could deliver new walk in customers to their door that were searching for their products on Froogle but chose to buy locally due to the convenience?
A wider impact on this hasn't been seen but very much like Yahoo Local which charges people to place targeted ads in a small vicinity, Google now seems to be offering this for free with a much better model as they are allowing the quick transition of online & offline purchases to be made without switching to another search entity. Example=> Yahoo (local is completely separate from shopping & search for that matter)
I wonder, has anyone participated in the Beta testing of this program? (Walmart, Kohls, Best buy?)
