.htaccess question as to addon domains
Does it work for addon domains

 5:44 pm on Dec 7, 2002 (gmt 0)

Hi. I have an .htaccess file for my main site. I've now added another web site to my main site as an addon domain. Will my .htaccess file work for the additional domain? If not, is it okay to do another .htaccess in the subdirectory that contains the additional domain?

I apologize if this makes no sense. I'm still new to this. I've looked around for the answers, but so far, no luck. And, I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum. Thank you.

You may want to read this article on how Apache locates and merges .htaccess files [apache-server.com].

If both domains use the same directory as their root directory then the .htaccess will apply to both domains. If the addon domain uses a subdirectory of the main domains root directory as its own root and the main domainīs htaccess file is in that domainīs root directory then Apache will first read the main domainīs htaccess file and then any htaccess files in your addon domainīs subdirectory.

Thank you for such a quick answer, Andreas. That's just what I needed to know. And thank you for the article, too. Marie
