|Newbie face to 301 problem|
need domain/index.html redirect to domain/
I'm a newbie to this forum
I want to get a help for 301 directory setup in .htaccess file
1) domain.com/index.html 301 redirect to domain.com/
2) www.domain.com/index.html 301 redirect to www.domain.com/
If your server is running Apache, try this redirect (place it in your .htaccess file in your root directory):
Redirect 301 /index.html http*://www.domain.com/
(ignore the * above)
It's a good idea to make sure you pick either www.domain.com or domain.com for your site. You can read more about the recent problems this has caused here:
I am also running into a problem with a 301 redirect.
My .htaccess file reads:
redirect permanent /page.html [abccompany.com...]
For some reason this redirect works in Firefox when I go to the page.html page.
But when I use IE I receive the http 404 not found error header as well when I use 301 redirect server response tools online.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong, or what might be wrong?
