Here's the scenario, I am create a link on a page that I want to open up a new window which contains two frames. I then want to tell the second frame to load a new URL. Anyone have any tips on how to to do this? This is what I've tried...

<script ...>
function view_thread(thread) {
var boards = open("http://url/", "boards")
boards.boardwindow.location=thread
}
</script>

<a href="#" onclick="view_thread('/new_url')">click here</a>

This opens up a new window, but doesn't change the frame called "boardwindow" at all. Just gives me an error...

I'm probably not understanding your question properly. The first thing that comes up for me is why not load the correct page into the frame to begin with -- using the new window's frameset document.
