Blank popup windows in IE6 (javascript error?)

Please help!

When I click on a link that is supposed to open a new window (javascript right?) all I get is a blank window. I am using IE6. If I click inside the blank window all I get is a "ding" sound. A specific web page where I get this error is at tvguide.com -- [tvguide.com...]

When I go to Tvguide.com and click on a TV show within the grid I should get a popup window describing that particular show. All I get is a blank popup window that never loads. I've checked my Scripting settings in Internet Options/Security/Scripting and the three settings for Java are enabled. I do not have any pop-killer programs installed. I run Zonealarm Pro but I still have this problem even when I turn off Zonealarm.

My machine is a brand new Dell Dimension 4550 running XP Pro. My ISP is Comcast. This problem was on my old computer too, which was a Pentium Pro 200 running Windows2000.

I've read one other post on a different message board where someone else was having this same problem, but he didn't know how to fix it either. Has anybody heard of this before? How do I fix?

I am using IE6 and don't get that problem, so I think it is with your setup, not with the site's Javascript.

Is it only on some sites, or all?

I have had a similar problem in the past with one site (Not related to pop-ups, but gave me a blank screen on one of the site's pages). The problem turned out to be my Norton Internet Security killing banner ads, so I disabled the 'ad blocking' feature, and that fixed it. But you say you have already eliminated this as the problem.

I suggest you contact the site. It might be a question they get a lot.

I've spotted ZoneAlarm adding anti-pop-up code to the source code (before it gets to your browser).

It may be blocked in your hosts file. Go to windows/system32/driver/etc (i think?) and find the HOSTS file (no extension)...se if a link with a tvguide.com domain is listed with an address of 127.0.0.1. If so, delete it, Otherwise you get a Page cannot be displayed error.
