BBC releases history clips online

 4:36 pm on Jan 4, 2006 (gmt 0)

We're pleased to present links to nearly 80 pieces of video and audio covering iconic news stories and events of the last 50 years. You might feel that some important stories have been left out. If so, it is likely to be because the BBC doesn't have the rights to release the item.

You better use a proxy in the UK if you want to view any of them.

And how would one go about using a proxy to view these outside the UK?

Go to your favourite search engine, query for "open proxy server" or "anonymous proxy server", access one of the results (beware of dialers, trojans and virus sites), browse the list for a proxy located in the UK, enter the proxies address and port into your browsers network settings.

Open proxies usually come and go at a very fast pace. Usually it takes 2-3 tries from a proxy list before you have one which still works. Once you have a working proxy, access the website and download whatever you like. Once done, revert (erase) the proxy settings again, because a no-proxied connection is always faster than a proxied one.
