Greetings,
I volunteered to umpire a couple of youth baseball games this season. Are there any good "guides" on the internet to show the proper rules of umpiring? I know the rules of baseball, just not the ump arm gestures and where to stand in the field. Thanks!

Relax kodaks,

The league sets the rules and umping is very, very easy to do. As in informal. All you really need to know is whether it's fair / foul and safe / out. Least ways that's been my experience. :)

Where to stand? Outta the way.

You'll do fine.

There actually are certain places to stand on the field and certain gestures. Here's a place with some pointers - [umpire.org...]

(just noticed my post count - I'll have to make sure I find a special non-Fooey place for #666)

You may also want to make sure you can recognize any gestures coming from the stands.

Yep I tried but only found a couple that weren't really much help.

<snip> People get very wrapped up in this stuff and go nuts if you make what they believe to be an error. I've done this and came close to being attacked.
