The word "courriel" actually comes from Québec, and here we've used it exclusively for years - it is only now that the French are starting to adopt it. Personally, I agree with this change, as the word courriel sounds better and is more descriptive in French than email. As for spam, we use the word "pourriel" a contraction of courriel pourri - the word pourri meaning rotten!
