A thank you note to Bill Gates
Bill Gates to give 95% of his wealth to improve world health

 4:15 pm on May 10, 2003 (gmt 0)

Last night on a Public Television channel I watched an inspiring and very special interview by Bill Moyers with Bill Gates.

Mr. Gates is so concerned with world health epidemics such as AIDS and Malaria that he is funding research and other education strategies to the tune of 95% of his resources.

What a beautiful thing, the wealthiest capitalist ever pledges so much to heal and educate the less privileged of the world.

Thank you Bill Gates.

I caught that show as well - very informative. It was clear to me that Bill Gates doesn't think about money in a conventional way at all.

Some paraphrases:

We realized that passing on ALL our wealth to our children would most likely be a problem for them, and not really a good thing.

When I began giving away money, I wondered if I might not get confused at some basic level. I need to shift between meetings that are about making money and meetings that are about giving it away.
