His licence cost 16,000.00 (because of legal fees) Take a look at Kevin's new book 'The Art of Deception' and check out the newsgroups for chapter 1 which is the missing chapter about his life - his story. Takedown is a poor book, theres much better ones which tell the story more accurately ;D

I thought Shimomura really tried to paint himself as a brilliant guy, which I am sure he is - I just would have liked the book to have explored some of Mitnick's side of what was going on at the time. I guess Kevin really wasn't in the mood to share any of that with Shimomura at the time - and Shimomura probably didn't want to hear about it.

Even more interesting (IMO): his probabtion ends on January 20th... at which time he can get back on the internet. :) (And the gov't says he will not be under any special surveillance... not sure if I'd believe that were I in his shoes)
