I bought it, and Unreal Championship on Wednesday, but haven't had time to set it up yet. Which live games do you have?

I only have mechassault right now, but I'll probably pick up unreal tonight or tomorrow. I've also been playing the motorcycle racing game on the demo disk, which is pretty good.

I don't have XboX LIVE yet, but I go on as my buddy's guest.

I am not a big fan of Unreal...MechAssult isn't all that great online as it gets boring after a while...imo at least

Halo 2 would define and grant all merits to XboX LIVE:)

what are your nicks?

...i was laggin' sick last night...lightening gun and lag don't mix!

I'm on. Find me playing NFL Fever, NBA 2k3 or Unreal. Screen name: pelly

Any of you played Ghost Recon? I'm picking it up this weekend.

Craig, just noticed you were in NH, same here. we could proabably have some lag free matches indeed.

Slightly off-topic, but how does Xbox compare to PS2 for a newbie purchaser, i.e., no inventory of games, no network of friends already committed to one format or the other.

Seems like there are more PS2 titles available, but are there other considerations that would suggest that Xbox is the better choice?

I have both, and haven't played PS2 once since I got XBOX.

Just about everything is better except some people complain about the larger controllers XBOX uses (you can buy smaller if needed), and the game selection isn't up to the PS2 yet. As far as I'm concerned though, XBOX has an amazing amount of high quality games for being so new and I like the controllers.

Now in my view XBOX live is the PS2 killer. I can't speak to the PS2 version of online play, but from what I've heard it's pretty bad. They left the servers up to the individual game makers, which includes support, voice sucks, and they alllow 56k dial up connections which kills the gameplay with lag.

MS on the other hand, handles the whole deal which was the right way to go. They take care of all support, billing, etc, and they only allow cable or DSL connections so the gameplay is amazing. Voice is *perfect* too. Seriously, I've been playing with up to about 16 people at once with no lag at all. It is sickeningly addictive and fun.

Don't get me wrong though -- PS2 is good. I used to love it and you could probably argue convincingly for either system...until XBOX Live was released.

The one problem I can see with XBox is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is only made for PS2. This is one of the best games ever made. I didn't think they could top GTA3 but they did. This game has been keeping me up until 2 or 3 in the morning most days.

I have a modded Xbox and it's the best thing since sliced bread. Yep, I cannot play Xbox Live! but that's fine by me as I don't play online games. Apart from the excellent software (terribly addicted to Halo and Moto GP), I'm having most fun with the Xbox Media Player, especially as it can play DivX/XviD movies etc very nicely indeed! Just need my local Blockbuster to increase it's Xbox game stocks!

I've heard about "modded" xboxs, and have been too lazy to dig around and find out the deal. In a nutshell, what gets modded, and whats the benefit?

Drastic: Play USA games on a UK XboX. Install a 120gig hard drive - let's you play all your games off it and increases loading speed PLUS you can play most classic arcade games using the XboX version of MAME (pleiads on my TV!) and, the best for me, play DivX movies too! Amazing bit of kit for the price...

Fifa is very, very good.....

And thats coming from a bloke whos grown up with the Atari/48k/Amiga

If you don't have this game it now would make a very welcome stocking filler! or just go buy it today.

Each console has the ups and downs..as usual.

My buddies and I co-own consoles...XboX (gettin' my own for Xmas:)), PS2 (have my own also), GameCube, DreamCast, N64, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Genesis, etc.

As for PS2, GTA is the bread earner. But in March, Soul Calibur 2 is coming out. Sure, it will be on multi-platform, but the PS2 controler is closest it comes to DreamCast's...anyone who played as much Soul Calibur as me and my buddies would appreciate the similar button setting:)

As for GameCube, Metroid Prime...that game owns!...that game alone could justify the purchase of GameCube...anyone who hasn't seen/tried the game...go do your thang:)...it's worth it:)

As for XboX, the console owns me...Halo alone is an addiction of its own...but factor in XboX Live...and beloved Steel Battalion (Xmas wish list)...ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:)

There are good games for all consoles...but i have to say that if you haven't played Halo multiplayer...you don't understand why that game is such an addiction

For XboX LIVE...look for Phat Madness or Raw Biz...they are my buddies...they usually play Unreal...so yeah
