Hi all

Im working on something just now that I feel would be a good subject for a blog (ongoing project that might be useful for others to refer to someones experience in the area).

Trouble is i really only have a vague concept of what a blog is.

I assume its a kinda online journal type deal?

Does anyone know of any sites where you can start your own blog for free? I did a couple of searches, but until i find out a bit more info in reluctant to start anything.

Id appreciate any help you can offer! :)

You know I did already do that search, but most of the opening lines didnt look relevant.

I found a site that answered my original query, and registered and im updating my blog as we speak.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter! :)

Cheers

Yep, but doesn't have to be. Some are adapting or altering blogs to be down-and-dirty content management systems.

I'd start by checking out greymatter [searchengineworld.com]. If this is a serious project, I cannot recommend starting out with a free blog service.

[webmasterworld.com...]

This was a worthy discussion with lots of ideas and information. I still don't have my blog going but we're getting closer. I'm building it into yet another redesign, ha.

JOAT, I'm not a blogger but I have an online journal. I'm not meticulous enough to do a regular blog. But I do put tons of relevant links in my journal.

As Hawkgirl's post hints, the definition of a blog can be either as general as "an online journal sorta thing" or as specific as "a site updated at least daily, featuring links to other sites (often other blogs), and general commentary."

I use Greymatter weblog software to manage one of my personal sites, and have just adapted a second installation to act as a photolog pulled into the main page via SSI.... but I write material very sporadically, sometimes going a month without adding anything new, and I don't generally link to other sites within my main content, so most people wouldn't call it a blog.

Cheers folks

I might look into incorporating some blog software into a site at some point...i like the idea of being able to easily updated new items and ive got a couple of sites that are updated on a daily basis.

I think now a days just about anything which is regularly updated can be called a 'blog' even if it's not according to the traditonal definition. I know many wouldn't consider my main one a 'blog' but that's what I call it anyway. I have another one which is used for a specific type of content (although it's neglected right now) which will eventually morph into (hopefully) a site with useful content which will form a resource in it's own right. Part of the joy of it all is that how you use the CMS or blogging software is totally up to each person. One thing I do know, it's addictive :D

Nice site, mivox - glad you liked London...It's a pain in the neck to drive around, but a great place to visit! There are lots and lots of other places in England you MUST see when you come back again however... especially if you relish visiting old buildings and gazing upwards at fine architecture.

:) Thanks! I spent a couple of days up north also... but I haven't got around to posting the photos yet.
