Run DMC were one of the greatest acts of the 80's, it is a very sad day.

"Run-D.M.C. represented everything good and positive about hip-hop," said their longtime producer Russell Simmons. "Jam Master Jay was a longtime family man and one of the founders of the group that knocked down all of the doors for hip-hop."

I read that last night and couldn't believe it. He was definitly a rap pioneer and broke down the door for nearly all the other rap artists.

Just read that now...man, it is absolutely horrible. He was not like Tupac Shakur, who was in everyone's faces (and what happened to him was equally as bad, but could be seen coming). It really happened to the wrong guy.

He will be missed. They were starting to come back. He leaves a great legacy.

gonna miss him. still remember one show in Ottawa a few years back. This is years after they were big, but I don't know if I've seen anyone get the crowd so hyped.

as Chuck D said in bring the noise:

"Run-DMC first said a deejay could be a band. Stand on its own feet, get you out your seat"

and he was right.

if anyone is interested in hearing what we're now missing, search alltheweb's mp3 thing for run dmc. there is a copy of 'tricky' there... classic.

Really sad.
They were awesome and I still remember rocking to "Walk this way" with Aerosmith, "Tricky", "Mary Mary" etc.

I was shocked to read about the shooting. In general, I don't like rap, but I liked Run DMC.
