It is not a pipe, and yes it does connect to something else, but not necessarily below.

it is the thingie you place on earht then you scare away the under-surface animals.you know the animals who eat roots or plants or harvest. sends showck waves or low frequencey waves into earth. i guess my bad enlgish will make it harder for you to undertand what i am trying to say.
