satanclaus wouldn't it be funny if you turned up in a t-shirt and everybody else was in their Armani Suits.

I have nightmares about things like that but it usually involves no t-shirt.

>I have nightmares about things like that

I had a Friday business meeting at a bank in Hawaii some years ago. Put on my 3 piece suit and walked in. Everyone had on Aloha shirts.

About a month later I returned to the same bank on a Thursday with my NEW Aloha shirt. Everyone had on suits. Turns out that it was a tradition in Hawaii to dress down on Fridays.

I used to work for a large printer repair company which had "wear what you like fridays"

As Business Development Manager one friday I had a meeting with a client, our sales manager and two sales people.

Five guys three in suits the Client, Me and the Sales manager

1 Sales Guy had shorts and a polo shirt

The other Sales Guy however worn torn jeans and teeshirt which said "I'm so happy I could SH*T"

It still makes me smile time I think about the look on his face when I tapped him on the should and said "are you ready to give your report to ** " the largest printer manufacturer in the world.

It was a classic it was also the sale managers fault for not telling them that they would have to be in the meeting.

The business cards go fast, bring a wad, along with an extra rubberband for the incoming ones.

Yes ...maybe a couple of pens, some of us are chronic borrowers. Last time, I ended up with several side-pockets of ye olde travel bagge stuffed with cards and notes.

Make sure your laptop works on 220 volts. Yanks might bring a converter for other appliances.

Personally, I wouldn't bring a laptop to the conference itself. It's standing-room only and you're going to be constantly moving between conversation groups. A laptop is going to be something of a boat-anchor. For those intent on networking, these will be a very fast-paced few hours.

No laptops allowed! Your arms need to be free to drink lots of Whisky with me and listen to my incredibly witty jokes. And we also need to ply the Search Engine reps with booze.

Yeah, we'll even laugh too. Then, setting our soda water aside, we'll ask you all of your best revenue sources.

I'll bring the beer funnel for you agerhart. Though I hear funneling European beer is a bit more difficult(suicidal) than american brew.

Personally, if I were just interested in that sort of thing, I'd skip the expense of going to London and find the nearest fraternity house instead.

You'll know who serious about doing business, by keeping an eye on who stays coherent. ;)

If the name tag text isn't big enough this time, I could always write your username on your forehead with a Sharpie marker...

Expect an awkward moment or two during the first few moments of meeting another member while you're both trying to realign the image of the person in front of you with the mental image you've made during your reading here.

Saying: Hello, NFFC! Really nice to meet you!

Thinking: This gal is NOT 23 years old!

Well, it looks like I will be bringing my Car too. They are messing around with the rail track next weekend and I don't fancy taking 3-4 different trains or hearing screaming babies for 4 hours...

Sure. And I'm a 40 year old man with an unnerving resemblance to Shirley Temple.
