Prior to PubCon, I need to go over to Stonehenge to sacrifice a few goats and chickens to the Druid BotGods. Unless I rent a car, an idea my wife doesn't particularly relish (believing that I'll default to the right lane within minutes -bah!), a BritRail pass seems to be the next most viable option. Or am I being suckered into a tourist gimmick?
A little out of the way place which is very interesting for war buffs is the Cabinet war Rooms. See [iwm.org.uk...]
It is the place from which Winston C ran the war. apparently when the war ended the officers shut the doors and didn't look back. It was reopened something like 30 years later with peoples cigars still in the ash trays, briefing notes still about and some of Winston's stuff still there.
I don't know what the fuss is about over Stonehenge. The stones are really small. I KNOW they are cause I saw a 'mockumentary' called 'This is Spinal Tap'....:>)
Seriously, I'm pretty nervous about this. I've never been overseas....and I'm pretty sure I'll do something stupid like forget to hold the door for the Queen or something like that...or even worse...yell something like "Braveheart was the best movie ever made"....I tend to do those dumb things...
