If you have a content rich page with quality content, people don't need to search for something else so the search function is not much used. In my case the ads to searchbox performance is about 100:1. The searchbox is there for convenience, but hardly helps to bring in money.

| Has there been a discussion on this topic? |
| Many, including a thread within the last couple of weeks. A Google search should help you find them.

I used google search for my site search anyway. This way I get a couple of bucks a month. Some people use their own on site search engine but display an adsense block on the results page. This may be work well if your site search is used a lot (mine isn't). The difficulty is that you can't display an adsense block on blank search results pages.

I never got more than 3 cent per click on search so I removed it.
