Just checking to see if anyone else has noticed that AdSense stats have not updated for about 4 hours now (as of 9 pm Eastern).

Thanks!

Drall:

More like another quote from Airplane - "Looks like I picked a wrong time to stop sniffing glue."

Actually - today is way up, very high CPM, whereas Tue. and Thur had historic low CPM's.

Worst of all, yesterday's #'s are missing 3,000 impressions... but if I turn on all my channels, and view it that way, I can see them... even though the lower revenue stays the same.

Never thought about how a drop like this could effect a network of 30 million impressions. Shouldn't you be a Premium Partner with that many a month?

There is on russian sleng word for my stat for
theese 2 days : "PIZDEC".
This is very suitable for very this moment.
EPC dropped 2 times.
Now it is almost nothing.
As well - different channels and sites. Just step drop.

If it stays the same - i'll go to adult business.
At least outthere nobody dropping share and revenue
5 - 10 times in 2 month period.

To bring a little optimism here... my stats are normal! Still waiting for Yahoo though.

hmmmm... doesn't work out for me though. I just have one block of Adsense on my pages - nothing more.

I have a hunch (its only a hunch and its been playing on my mind since the last time this happened to my stats) that G occasionally rejig their clickfraud algo for a shakeout and when they do this it results in funny stats followed by a dump of clicks some days later that had been withheld due to over-zealous checking. I'll wait and see if my hypothesis bears out (ever the optimist).

Has anyone else noticed the fact that all of this started almost right after Adsense posted their "Read the latest on new forms of advertising and image updates" message on the Adsense homepage "?

I usually check Adsense about 3 or 4 times a day ... I had checked early Wednesday morning, no message, and everything was normal for a Wednesday ... Later, I checked again and the message was there, and I started noticing what is going on now ... I am thinking about something myself ...

The message clearly states that Adsense is currently "testing" the new CPM style advertising, as well as other new forms of image advertising ... The theory that I am looking at is that Adsense is currently doing some kind of "rotation" on these tests ... Why do I say this?

Early this morning, I started a 3 phase test, which lasted until approx. 5 pm EST:

1. Checked website traffic every 5 minutes
2. Checked Adsense impressions and clickthrus via my own methods every 5 minutes.
3. Checked Adsense reports every 5 minutes.

Some interesting things came out of this "experiment”...

- My website traffic remained almost completely normal for a Friday...

- There were time periods (between 45 min and 1 hour in length), in which my Adsense impressions and clickthrus were at normal levels. The rest of the time, all statistics are down between 40% - 50% (this was verified by my own tracking methods, and were almost identical to official Adsense reports) ... Note as well that these were very "defined" time periods (eg. almost like opening a water faucet, then closing it)

- In all cases, there were no PSA ads; instead, completely irrelevant ads were showing...

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In the case where irrelevant ads were being shown, my own tracking methods (normally around 98% accurate) didn't even pick these ads up, even as I viewed them on my website!

Taking the aforementioned into account, I believe that what we are seeing now may actually be Adsense testing the following:

- Statistics on clickthrus via CPM advertising versus normal CPC advertising

- Mechanisms to track clickthrus via CPM advertising versus CPC advertising

- Methods to combine the two forms of advertising (in terms of tracking), while being able to accurately discern between the two

While it may be a good idea for Adsense to give advertisers the option of CPM advertising, anyone involved in any sort of online business knows that CPM is the least expensive (compared against CPC), so in their "auction" process, Adsense must be trying to figure out how to keep both CPM and CPC revenue generation levels on a somewhat even level...

What does everyone else think?

What does everyone else think?

I think: "New Coke".

Personally, I was very fond of "Coke Classic".

I hope at least someone is earning what I'm missing... down about 1/3rd earnings on slightly increased traffic and impressions.

this sounds logical - will take them a bit of tweaking and testing to make sure the new system works...

our result for last 24hrs = down 20% earnings - but CPM is up slightly...

large relvant quality higher traffic site was 50% down on revenue and smaller sparsely populated low traffic sites are doing much higher eCMP / earnings without higher traffic... balancing out to 20% loss... but for last hour looks to be reversing...

Yes - definitely agree the must be experimenting with algo's / integrating new CPM sytems...

Just to add my experiences this week: our page views according to Google are half of what is actually being requested on our server. Page views on my server for Thurs. report 12K views, Google reports 8K; then Fri. server reports 13K views, while Google reports 7K, not good! I also noticed Google not serving ads at specific times, especially since Black Wednesday. I'm sure this is why the difference is appearing but 4 to 5K per day is an awful lot no? Our earnings are down about 20% and this had to happen during the middle of a site wide launch campaign this week. Sigh.
