New channel features added, including real time channel stats!
No more waiting 2 days for channels; new change to impressions

 7:59 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Channel reports in real-time: Until now, channel data was delayed 2 days before appearing in your reports. We've upgraded our system to provide real-time reporting, allowing you to quickly react to changes in your ad performance on a page-by-page basis.

Remove channels: Your channels UI has been cleaned up, by introducing a 'Remove Channel' option that allows you to remove channels from your active and inactive lists.

"Shift-select" for channels: When selecting channels from the Reports page selection box, use SHIFT+click to select multiple channels at once.

I have been asking for real time channel stats for a while, it is nice to see we now have it available :) It will make it much easier for monitoring and testing pages.

They have also added page impressions versus ad unit impressions as well:

We've added new options to your reporting page, allowing you to select from page impressions or ad unit impressions when generating your performance reports.

You should see it when you login to your account, or if it is a rolling update, you should see it shortly.

More info here:

Did Google change (ad) impressions to page impressions? I see all impression stats have been reduced to reflex the actual page impression due to using multi-ads.

They now provide the option of both page and ad impression reporting. A most welcome addition. Also great that it's retroactive. Excellent.

Welcome new features. Can see them here in the UK :)

 8:10 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

This is very sweet. Right on!

 8:11 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

This is great, I can work in real time now:-)

 8:11 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

I also noticed this:

In addition, your browser will now remember your prior report settings each time you select a report. If you have a favorite report that you run often, you're going to love this feature!

Very nice feature for those who are report fanatics :)

I've been studying my stats for the last 15 minutes and still think, as I did a long time ago, that the Clicks numbers do not update at the same time as the Impressions - which skews your ctr/epc downwards thereby causing unnecessary panic.

Anyone else concur?

 8:21 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

anybody sees a small bug when clicking on "All" (i.e. select all channels?)

At least in Firefox, channels are selected only one at a time...
i.e. you click "All" once, the first channel is selected.. you click again the second is selectec etc. etc.

 8:26 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Anyone else concur?

Not only that but I can't reconcile the overall figures either through impressions or earnings.

Surely 4 channels earnings added together should equate to the overall earnings for that day? Likewise the impressions ought to do the same...but mine do not.

Anyone else?

These changes are nice, but something more useful would be a CLICK FRAUD DETECTION report so we can block malicious IPs doing bad things instead of waiting for Google to drop the hammer on our accounts.

 8:43 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Hi OptiRex,

Not if those channels overlap, eg www.example.com and www.example.com/interestingBit/

In this case you'd get the last set of stats "double-counted" if you do "all".

That is, the TOTALs values don't mean much if you do want to show overlapping stats, which I do.

 8:50 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Damn it, now we will spend even more time checking our stats ;-)

Anyway nice new feature.

 8:59 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

I've found a small bugette I think: trying to show channels in search doesn't work for me (yet)...

 9:11 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Hi DamonHD

Unfortuately that's not what I did.

I have tried this with several urls and their channels and none of them balance.

Surely totalling the individual channel impressions should equate to the overall channel impressions and the individual channel earnings equate to the overall channel earnings for that specific url?

Mine do not therefore I shall have to investigate this anomally further since the balance is in my favour so I want to know why:-)

Don't want then taking it back!

 9:43 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Using Firefox I had to turn off JS in order to be able to go from Channel stats to aggregate stats.

 9:44 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Hi OptiRex,

Hi, what you say sounds right... You're not using any of those channels on other sites or using any generic non-channel ads?

 9:53 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

OK not noticed this before ( and I think should have!)

If I select all my active channels the earnings are a lot higher almost 30-40% (as are impressions and clicks) than if I just show Aggregate data...

is this a bug with the new system - seems to be the same issue OptiRex is seeing?

 10:13 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

When you log in, you can see a drop-down box that shows data by ad unit. Not sure how to interpret the numbers though. There is also a new heading called "eCPM".

Also, if you select a range of dates, then log out, then the next time you log in it shows the same range of dates as the default.

All the changes are listed here - https: //www.google.com/adsense/new

Channel reports in real-time - no more 2-day delays in seeing channel data.

 10:43 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

The Page Impressions figure counts actual page views, regardless of the number of ad units. The Ad Unit Impressions figure counts the ad unit displays.

So if a visitor sees a page with 3 ad units, that is one Page Impression and three Ad Unit Impressions. (The new Ad Unit Impressions count is equivalent to the old-style Page Impressions count.)

And you are right about the same-day channel stats.

<add>Same-day Ad Unit Impressions, Ad Unit CTR, and Ad Unit eCPM. Yes!</add>

Jenstar had already broken the news about 2 hours earlier:

 11:34 pm on Apr 5, 2005 (gmt 0)

Just noticed they are using cookies now to remember your last settings.

Just noticed they are using cookies now to remember your last settings.

Extremely useful for those of us who dis-allow them!

You're not using any of those channels on other sites or using any generic non-channel ads?

Nope...I've just returned from the pub (surprise, surprise) and all the "greymasters" had picked up on the same anomally...!

A GMaster with only one site with 3 channels was not able to reconcile the maths!...And we sat there with his printed stats and it still did not make sense...

Guess what? All of us went there with the "News" of the improvements:-)

G reckons we've nothinG better to do!

 3:51 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

i went in and deleted all my useless channels! Wow, my list is so short now.

 4:59 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

Just noticed they are using cookies now to remember your last settings.

I'm here to debunk this myth -

They may set a cookie but it's being tracked on AdSense directly.

I set the report to "this month" in IE, then logged in from FireFox and saw "this month" as the default.

Then I set the report to "this week" in FireFox and went back and logged in on IE and got "this week" up on my screen as the default.

Unless IE and FireFox are suddenly sharing cookies, this setting is saved on the server.

Which is why AdSense now breaks two monitor programs I'm using unless I remember to exit on "today" as the default report.

 6:20 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

This should be interesting. It is now possible for premium members to set up channels for keywords and then have a program auto login, detect the highest paying keywords for the day and then display those ads...

 8:31 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

what is aggregate?
Does this include channel data or is it only non-channel?

If I have channels set up and ask for aggregate does it show all data or just the stuff without channels?

 10:56 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

I get the same thing, i have a channel set up, which i use for all my ads, but when i run by all report it does not match the report for that channel.

 11:46 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

Hooray for real time channel stats!

Thanks Google - that's a big step in the right direction!

 11:53 am on Apr 6, 2005 (gmt 0)

Very nice.

Thanks Google Guys.
