Super bad targeting!

My site definitely does not have anything to do with dating but I just had 3 ads in a block of four (336x280 rectangle) show up for "dating" and "staying connected" in 3 countries outside the US (which is where I'm located - Nevada to be exact). Not even the words 'date' or 'connected' are anywhere on the page! Ack! This just makes no sense to me, unless the bot is indeed broken.

I'm off to block them....

"Dating" ads came up earlier today in the

Mediatabot Reads Javascript [webmasterworld.com] thread.

Apparently you are not alone.

I've gotten some horrifically bad targeting today, too, so the bot might just be having a bad day. OTOH, if Google thinks your page really is about dating, blocking the dating ads you've got will only get you cheaper dating ads. You might want to fiddle with the content and then do something to get the bot back, instead.

Edit after reading ken_b's post: ...Or maybe the mediabot is on crack.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, the only javascript on my site is Google's Adsense and Adsense Search. Kinda rules out it being the same situation as was earlier reported. Maybe the bot is on crack!

On my site, food related, the bot being on crackers would be suitable.

I'm also seeing some unrelated ads. My ctr has dropped because of it.

I would like to know how to filter ads only for a specific channel. that way I can filter it out of the site that is unrelated but leave it on a site that IS related.

So.. I'm not the only one with a "dating" problem. Very Interesting.

I was browsing some "big boy" sites and they were running some PSA's. Some sites I see have already switched to a different ad provider, and the ads were rather relevent.

Like one site was a free stats provider, and used to have google ads for "Free Stats Providers." Now these new ads are for web hosting, and web content, etc. I actually stopped to read them :)

Something has gone bad with the targetting sytem. I had a section of my site that used to get good targetted ads and was genrating good revenue. Now, most of the ads are off topic resulting in a 1000%drop in eCPM , ouch :( I want my old ads back!
