BennyBlanco, if_that's_your_real_name ;), you seem to have the inside running on issues AdSense. Mind revealing your source? ;)
Anyhow, I hope you're right (no doubt everyone will be hammering those stats even more than usual), and Happy Birthday to you. May all your AdSense cheques be big 'uns.

It's close to my real name ;)
And your name is close to me, Sox (I'm originally from Boston).
If this tidbit of info comes true, I'll shed a little light, but I don't want to seem like some false prophet or anything. I just saw people already sweating over how slow AS id running today, and I believe this is why.

I think bakedjake's explanation in msg #13 in MSN Search Down? [webmasterworld.com] about Akami being the cause of the problem is more plausible. I shudder to think that Google approving AdSense payments could bring the Google SE, Yahoo, MSN and other unrelated sites down. ;-) Then again, that problem could be unrelated to the AdSense problem.

I didn't do any archive digging, but my memory says the same thing... the past two pay periods had similar slow downs and even some WebmasterWorld'ers posting about how adsense gets delayed while they prepare payments. I can't remember farther back that about two months...

Yes, Google is one of the ones affected by this DNS issue.

To be clear, my mention of the payments really didn't have to do with the slow down. I was offering that as a possible factor. After looking at what richmondsteve posted, that does seem a more plausible explanation.
This doesn't change what I said as the main point of my original post however.

I also remember there was a long delay when payments were being approved last month.
I don't think the DNS issue is what is causing the AdSense to lag behind. It's been doing that for quite sometime now.
Hopefully BennyBlanco is right.

BennyBlanco, I misunderstood what you were saying when you said "whole system slows down" - I thought you were referring to the AdSense problems of an hour or two ago where AdSense ad blocks wouldn't load due to the host serving the JS code being unreachable.
The lag for yesterday's data was very long so your birdie could be right. ;-)
