loanuniverse - good numbers but as you seem as though you night be in the business - what do you think a bank will pay on the overnight rate for $10M?

I realize I will probably get shot down for this but why would you calculate Google's return on float using the federal funds rate and not their return on investment? Wouldn't they be able to plan for this float and invest it as they please? Additionally, I would guess it would be substantially higher than $10,000,000.
Suppose $30,000,000 X 8%/365=$6,575/day.
Thats almost as much as I make from a good day with adsense.;)

I hate to drag this out, but where are you getting 8% from? Unless Google are paying off their credit card debt with the money, or speculating in Mexican pesos, the figure is going to be something like 1%.

This is getting off-topic, but I think Jenstar is not around so we get a chance to be bad. ;)

why2kit: For that size of a depository relationship other type of financial vehicles would be set up such as "Repo accounts" where Google would be buying Government securities on a daily basis to get around the FDIC insurance limits. The rate would not be much higher than 1% <Rates are really low at the moment>

Powdork: Good point, but for short-term funds that are already allocated like the adsense payables to publishers. They must be highly liquid, they are not really available to invest in the company. Sure you can argue that using them for short-term working capital financing it would lower the need for funds for the business, but the stronger argument is against it. In addition, my educated guess is that Google has enough cash flow not to risk using money that they need to pay in a very very short time.

Wow! I just got my January check today. I have never, ever gotten it this quickly. Check is dated 02-23-04, postmarked 02-24-04 and arrived 02-26-04. In the past the check would not have even been mailed for at least another week.

Good job Google.

Wow, this was definetly a good move on by the adsense team. Prior to this month I thought the payment sent refered to payment processing, but not sent as it took a few weeks.
This month after it was posted to the adsense site on a sunday it arrived on the following tuesday, in connecticut.
Previously I had also thought there was some significance to the 3rd wednesday of the month, but again, i guess not.

Why only US publishers....? Come on guys, I also want my check!
However, this month I have already received 2 google checks... One for December and another one that old November (or October) check that never arrived. So, I should not complain. :)
