World Cup AdSense Slump?

In couple of days, the FIFA world cup will start, now most of the websites with only US traffic won’t feel anything, but internationally speaking, a huge drop in traffic is expected, most of the Europeans, South Americans, Asians, Middle Eastern, Africans and this year even Australians will have one thing on their mind for one month, the world cup!

Huge drop in traffic = huge drop in Adsense income!

BTW, Go England Go.... :)

Life will go on. I don't expect any drops. Unless... students want to fail, employees wish to get fired and so on. With that said, luxury items may see a drop in sales except gigantic LCD & plasma HDTVs. The rich may watch soccer all day long huh :)

I am not expecting too much of a drop in Asian or Australian visitors due to the times of the matches, but European traffic could well be affected, especially while the macthes are on.

I know I won't be getting enough sleep until it is all over.

We'll know soon however, like Visit Thailand, I feel the matches are nicely timed and some may experience a temporary match drop in visitors yet what about all those non-soccer fans who may be able to get to the family PC and actually use the Net?

For sure the semis and final should see a reduction and especially so in the UK after England have won:-))

From remembering the European Championship I dont think traffic was really that effected when games were on.

Yes, but after we have won ;) - there will hopefully be a little economic boom.

Roll on Friday - New Sensi Soccer and the World Cup :)

Is that with or without Rooney?!

The European Cup is very different. Every country in the world (apart from perhaps the US) will and already is glued into the World Cup.

I just wish BBC World would stop live coverage of Rooney landing at Heathrow etc.

Might actually see a nice little up-turn in retail therapy when England get knocked out after the first round ;)

Not if you're smart enough to have a related site. :)

I hope it's not as bad for you as it is for us in the states on Super Bowl Sunday. I couldn't imagine a whole month of that.

Yep, people with an European/UK reader base are bound to take a big hit during the world cup month. There will be wall to wall coverage on TV, and when people use the internet, they are bound to be on sports realted sites. I think a 50% drop in income is not out of the question.

A related question might be, "If there is a World Cup slump, how much of a rebound effect will there be afterwards?"

Some purchases are discretionary and may not occur if people are distracted. On the other hand, if John Doe is planning a trip, intending to buy a new car, or seriously thinking of buying a computer before the new school year, he may simply defer his shopping (and clicking) until a later date.

Slump? My site on metatarsals is doing quite nicely, thank you.

Incidentally, for UK members of the forum who aren't on the Dept of Transport's mailing list, you may need to make note of the following circular:

THIS DEPT OF TRANSPORT INITIATIVE HAS BEEN RE-LAUNCHED, MAY 2006.

Information Release.

Due to the nature of the quality of driving in England the Department of Transport has now devised a new scheme in order to identify poor drivers and give good drivers the opportunity to recognise them whilst driving.

For this reason as from the middle of May 2006 those drivers who are found to be driving badly which includes:

  • overtaking in dangerous places;
  • hovering within one inch of the car in front;
  • stopping sharply;
  • speeding in residential areas;
  • pulling out without indication;
  • performing U turns inappropriately in busy high streets;
  • under taking on motorways and
  • taking up more than one lane in multi lane roads

These drivers will be issued with flags, white with a red cross, signifying their inability to drive properly. These flags must be clipped to a door of the car and be visible to all other drivers and pedestrians. Those drivers who have shown particularly poor driving skills will have to display a flag on each side of the car to indicate their greater lack of skill and general lower intelligence mindset to the general public.

Please circulate this notice to as many other motorists as you can so that drivers and pedestrians will be aware of the meaning of these flags.

Department of Transport.

Yay, BBC coverage starts at 16.00 UK time, first match 17.00 UK time, 18.00 CET.

Anyone fancy a bet on Costa Rica beating Germany at 10/1?

I'm keeping a logs record of before, during and after the match to see what, if anything, happens.

Perhaps one the MFA members of the forum would like to take your bet first and then lay it off at a small profit?

Well I am getting ready for 5 weeks of very little sleep. World Cup Fever is everywhere. When the matches are on (especially the big ones) then I expect va's to drop dramatically. The better the US team does the worse it will get, as the US public will slowly get with the programme.

would like to take your bet first

Hehehe, I'm not offering those odds, they're from Fred:-)

Fortunately the weather's not as hot in Munich as the UK at the moment.

Interestingly, having looked at some of the betting sites, some of them are very badly constructed with one of them practically destroyed by my Opera browser.

The best offer I've seen today is one of my local bars offering good beer at £1.25 pint until the first goal is scored! I hope that Cosa Rican defence is good.

Do we have any AdSensers here with betting sites since I see that several of the top SERPs results feature ads of various genres.

If so, how do they perform? Lots of visitors and very low click thrus?

Ever since I heard that Liverpool were 500 - 1 to win the Champions League at half time I should pay more attention to sports betting.

Did you hear about Rooney's father (or someone) who placed a bet many years ago othat he would play for England in the World Cup.

Don't they usually get some important non-footballer to have a go at scoring a goal before the game starts?

They were talking about a massive increase in power demand, enough to power a large city, when people in the UK sit down to watch the match. And people bunking off work and not concentrating properly. You would think it was a major financial disaster, not just some footie.

The Germans have scored. We'll probably see a rapid increase in traffic from England, France and Costa Rica.

Did not thought to post in this thread, not the soccer WM becomes a threat.

The last hour was terrible.
Extrem low impressions
Extrem low CTR
Low EPC

The revenues from the last hour are like between midnight and morning.

Last hourly income about 25% what I would expect at this time Friday evening.
