Maybe in your niche it is but in my experience you just can't tell how the month will pan out based on previous experience. Everyday its different - big advertisers come and go, also when your content changes the adverts change too.

The most certain thing with AdSense is... uncertainty. Seriously!

Yeap. I am dismayed on how low the CPC has gotten. I started in October with a healthy .30 + per click. I know see in the reports that we have increased clicks but less than .05 per click. What the heck is going on? If it stays this way, I fear that this Adsense rollercoaster is over. Cause I can get a better CPC with bidclix at this current rate. I hope it changes soon. CompWorld

I'm having a great month with AdSense, best ever. Things were getting pretty low for me until I turned off the borders (made them the same color as the background). Soon as I did that saw a very sharp uptick in CTR. Also seem to be getting more per click right now - probably thanks to Christmas and all.

| Does AdSense TOS allow you to do this? I was under the impression that altering the ad code was a violation.

lil_red, I believe Jim is referring to the tool that Google provides in its AdSense control panel that allows us Webmasters to custom-specify the ad colors. So clearly, using this tool would not be in any violation of Google's terms :)

Most Internet browsing takes places at work ... and as offices clear out starting about now, most of us will see decreased traffic on our sites until about Jan. 2. For most sites this will undoubtedly translate into lower earnings, whether from AdSense, TribalFusion or whatever. Too many holidays! Everyone should get back to work ... or at least back to their desks, where they can use company time to visit our sites.

I am getting the same CTR and impressions but my CPC and CPM are just dropping out of the sky. Since I don't have domain reporting, I can't tell from which one of my 5 websites is dropping. BZ

Lil_Red, You can safely make the borders of your adsense ads the color of your background - essentially turning them off - by using the color tools in the AdSense control panel. I specifically asked Google about it and they said sure, no problem, long as the "ads by Google" thing was left alone. Jim

Heck, I think some of the Google defaults have boarders "turned off". And didn't one of their example sites do something similar for better performance?

YEP! Just turned off my borders last night and today has seen a much better click thru rate. The amounts per day have fluxed much this month...all in all the amount is lower than the last few months. I also agree it depends on the advertisers... you really never know when there will be a "click war" for keywords.
