Tittle says it all.

I think that Yahoo is worth way more than Google ever could. Because it is in almost every possible internet market there is(Dating, Movies, Finance, Shopping, Small Business, Auctions, Music) and not just paid-search.

Data
------------------------------------------------------

Google Valuation 218 MarketValue $49B
Yahoo Valuation 92 MarketValue $47B

----Google-----3Q 2004
"Google reported record revenues of $805.9 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2004, up 105 percent year over year"

"Net Income - Net income on a GAAP basis increased to $52.0 million..."

The ratio compared of Gross Revenues to Net Revenues is roughly 6%.

----Yahoo------3Q 2004

"The company's quarterly revenues increased to $906.7 million in 3Q04, from $356.8 million in 3Q03."

"Yahoo's net income more than tripled in 3Q04 to $253.3 million..."

GR to NR is Roughly 27%

------------------------------------------------------

I could name more like Revenues per employee, etc. But this should be a no brainer!

You are right. Yahoo is much more diverse than Google. Yahoo has dating, shopping, travel, auctions, email, and on and on. Google justifies its price through AdSense and a lot of hype. In defense of Google, they are a younger company with a lot of room for growth into new areas.

The thing is I disagree they have a lot of room to grow. If they add a portal type site, the same thing will happen to AltaVista and some other search engine like GigaBlast will come along.

Meaning that it would lose its appeal to users who have sworn of Yahoo because of the confusion.

internet users might become more and more sophisticated - instead of going to yahoo and getting annoyed by blinking ads while searching for the 'dating' button they might just type into an input field (or in their pda/cell): 'give me a date in (zipcode)' or 'I need a new teacher job, minimum $xyk per year in zipcode' ... google appears to have more technology when it comes to the last scenario

I agree, plus Yahoo has a messenger and offers Yahoo DSL and a lot more services that Google doesn't offer. It offers Launch and has many stations on it and so many more benefits that Google lacks. Yahoo has more features and although Google might be more relevant, notice how Yahoo always has #1 rating on Alexa ;)
