According to the linked Google page, demographic targeting is a tool for site-targeted campaigns (meaning CPM ads, not contextual pay-per-click ads). So it shouldn't have much effect on the average publisher who isn't getting a ton of CPM ads.

It doesn't sound really impressive. MSN's targeting comes from data submitted by the users while Google is mainly just guessing.

It falls into the realm of site targeting, just sites with certain demographics as opposed to knowing a specific site. It should help with the eCPM since (in theory anyway) the people you want to see your ad will see it. How they'll determine the demographics for some sites is my only question.

Adsense users do you see any differences these days?

It's just a different way to pick sites for your site-targeted campaigns. This is a good option if you want to site-target smaller sites, but you don't have the time to examine 500 small sites to see if they match your target audience.

So far, it looks like using any of the "Advanced Options" completely screws up the targeting. Basic targeting of age/gender/income looks to be pretty valuable. (Although did I need a tool to tell me that women over age 55 are interested in knitting websites?)

Also interesting that the links to the sites go to specific pages, not just to the site root.

They say it's available for U.S. only campaigns, but I'm finding it returns many .co.uk and a few other country domains. Not saying that folks in the U.S. don't visit other country TLDs, but it does make me worry about the demographics data.

Should this positively effect the publishers? Adsense users who have high traffic from highly demanded areas? Such as North East US?

| The system will analyze your preferences and create a list of available Google Network sites that are popular with that audience. |
| how do they know about these sites? AdSense publisher got surveys to fill out?

I tried setting up my site-targeting campaign to include demographics, but it does not even show it as an option for choosing sites! All I see in my account is the basic 2 options: typing in your own URLs, or search sites by topic. Nothing on demographics. Anyone else have the same problem?

I was testing their relevence of the geotargeted KW tool, and when I put in "Canada KW" it came back with the suggestion "Inda KW". Hmmmm, if I'm targeting Canada why would I want that?...

[I tried setting up my site-targeting campaign to include demographics, but it does not even show it as an option for choosing sites!] update... I talked to a rep at Google. He said that it may be taking some time for this feature to be rolled out to every Adwords account. I still don't have the demographic site targeting option showing up in my account as of today. I have a client who this would benefit, but it doesn't appear that Google is going to fix the problem. I guess I just wait.
