Is adwords estimate accurate?

Has anyone determined how well the Adwords Keyword estimation correlates to actual traffic for a #5 or higher ranking? For example, if I am ranked #3 for a phrase that Google Adwords says will have 3,000 impressions per day, what fraction of that might I really expect in terms of traffic? I imagine a significant inflation occurs with these estimations from webmasters searching the terms to determine their ranking.

The estimation for single keyword's is quite exact. However, forget about the estimation for phrases with more than 1 keyword.

AFAIK google mixes the estimation for keyword 1 and keyword 2 following any algo.

I recently booked a phrase "thisnthat software". Google estimates around 200 searches / day. Reallity is less than 2 searches a week!

I hardly miss a better estimation for phrases!
