Newbie to google adwords. Running a campaign for a few days with not much success.

Each day I have changed the key words and phrases. I've also changed the ad itself 4 times.

Now my campaign is suspended and I see 'Pending Approval'.

What's going on here? Is there a limit to the number of times you can change an add? I have also put in chevrons in the add >>> <<< to try and make something stand out. Is this not allowed?

>, !, all caps,*,etc. are not allowed. I tried several things to make an ad stand out, but they all got rejected. You have to keep it squeaky clean.

Punctuation: We do not permit excessive or unnecessary punctuation or symbols. Your ad should not contain numbers or letters in place of words such as "Deals 4 U." Also, avoid using characters such as /, ..., $, #, =, +, or @ in a non-standard way. The following are examples of guideline violations:
1.) ***Google AdWords***
2.) shop @ Google
3.) An exclamation point in your ad title
4.) More than one exclamation point in your ad text

By creating clear, well-targeted AdWords ads, you'll reach potential customers more effectively and help ensure a positive search experience that will build user confidence in Google AdWords overall. While we regret any inconvenience these changes may cause you, we're confident the improved response to your Google AdWords campaign will make this effort worthwhile.

Well I removed the offending characters but the campaign is still pending.

I emailed google on the weekend to ask what was going on but no reply, no ads.

Are they 9-5 Monday to Friday kind of workers or what?

BTW, what's the score with having 3 different ads. e.g. I sell widgets. I have ads:

widgets inc
20% off widgets in July
www.coolwidgets.com

and

widgets inc
free widgets to next 10 visitors
www.coolwidgets.com

and

widgets inc
2 for 1 widgets this month
www.coolwidgets.com

keyphrases are free widgets, cool widgets for all 3 ads

so if someone searches for 'free widgets' which all will be seen? all of them or just 1 rotated at random?

PS
Why is it that the ads change colour if I refresh? And is there a way to find out which colour obtains the highest click through?
