Hello,

Today I was adding some new keywords to my google adwords campaign. To my suprise some of the keywords, instead of showing up in the little box, came up on tops as a sponsored link.

Why'd that happen??

A couple of months ago. Changes depending on if they have any premium sponsers for the words.

well, that cant be it. i tried some of my other keywords that have no sponsors, and i still get a little ad on the side.

Does it have to return a large number of searches AND have no sponsers for an adwords to be listed as a sponsor listing?

It has nothing to do with there being other sponsors already. Some of my adwords show up as sponsored, right below the sponsored ads. It has to do with MONEY. Google has some type of algorithm for figuring if you get into the sponsored listings or not. In general, when I raise my bids above .30 cents, most of the time I will move into the sponsored area. However, I'm pretty sure they also take your CTR% into account also. I have a few keywords that just won't go into the sponsored area no matter how high I bid. I have never been able to fully figure out the exact criteria for getting into this sponsored listing area.

Your ads are appearing on top probably because -

1) Your ads have high CTR
2) You are paying high CPC for your keywords
3) There are currently no takers for the top spot (sponsored links)
