Just got it, it's definitely been released. [toolbar.google.com...] Interesting - Pagerank bar is vertical instead of horizontal!

Hehe... it's displaying German Explanations in a tooltip window if I hover the mouse over an English word. Nice touch, though maybe annoying after a while.

Too bad PR's background is an unchanging gray like the surrounding area. Nice thing about IE's PR display is that it shows white background when page has been cached (i believe that's what it's indicating, at least) and gray when google, for some reason, hasn't gotten to the site. That's a convenient feature of the tool that seems to have been left out for firefox.

Not only is it grey, but it doesn't seem to distinguish between "grey bar" and 0PR sites as the IE version does - they all just show as 0. Odd.

Right, but it looks like https sites are showing a PR that's all dark. It'd be a lot cooler if they did that to indicate not only secure sites, but the graybar ones too.

By the way, that spellchecker isn't sending data over to Google to spellcheck is it? It's just a localized (hard disk) dictionary check right, like Spellbound? Considering the xpi is only 300k, I don't see how Google does a local check unless they are downloading a dictionary during the install. So if it's a remote spellchecker, that means all your form data is being sent to a remote server - anyone think about the implications on that?

emono you probably have to add google to the trusted list for xpi optionally you can simple save the xpi to your desktop and just drag it to Firefox (right click and save as toolbar.xpi [toolbar.google.com])

Does anyone have a clue why the Pagerank shown by the Google Pagerank Status extension differs from the Pagerank shown by the official toolbar? And the pagerank in the IE toolbar is different again. Does anyone know which is the "correct" one? Any hints greatly appreciated!

| This is obviously due to the poor extension API that exists in FireFox. I wouldn’t blame Google for writing the bad toolbar code base because in my opinion they have the best software engineers on the planet. Working with Google will create the same issue that Microsoft experienced with IE back with IE 4.0. Once M$ opened up IE to being extended by several plug-ins this is when the security holes began to multiply. The FF Developers will have to make the extension API much more solid then it's current state and by doing so they'll open up a huge can of worms. Extensions will severely hurt FireFox and its hopes of it having the leading browser Market share. The FF Development team should stay away from extending the browsers core functionality of BROWSING and should just make a solid browser or they'll be even more buggy then M$.

| I don't think you know what you're talking about. The FF toolbar (and any other PR-related extension) pulls data from a Google server and displays it. The only thing the extension API has to do with this process is displaying what data is provided. If the data provided by Google differs from what is displayed it is the extension's programmer who caused it. The actual answer to the above question is that there may be multiple servers providing PR to the IE toolbar, FF toolbar, and various geographic locations. There has been a PR update recently any users may experience variations. The "unauthorized" PR tools and extensions that exist might be using "old" servers or code. Often the SERPs and other data provided by the Google API differs from what is seen on most other data centers.
