No Keywords, But Ranked 1st. How?

I Googled the three words in my website name, and they are key words in my content as well, to see how my site ranked. I made the first page (just). But the number one spot was for a site that was completely unrelated to those words.

They did not have any instances of the words in their content. They did not have any instances of those words in the description or keywords within their source.

They have a PR3, I have a PR4.

How did they become number one?

I didnt want to post the three words, because it would be obvious promotion of the site. But if you want to try it out, sticky mail me and I'll let you know.

You may want to use a tool to view the page the way a search engine spider sees it. It could very well be cloaked.

There are many tools out there to do it if you do a little web search.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it out with two different tools on both sites. There doesnt appear to be any cloaking going on, still no sign of any of those three keywords.
And yes, I double checked, it is not a sponsored link.

If you are talking about Google, check the cached version - if you see something like

These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: (your terms)

that means that a site or several sites have linked to them with those keywords, and that is what Google is using to rank them.

Bingo! thats what it was. thanks.

From what I can tell it was a link from a PR7 site. The site is merely a list of blogs. And they put in a bogus name so it fit the theme of the list (that name matches my site name) and linked to their non-related site.

But only one link!

i feel cheated
