New way of gaining link pop?
Hermia - the 'we change the links' Directory!

Msg#: 43 posted 9:37 am on Sep 9, 2000 (gmt 0)

Spending a bit of time looking through the referral logs I saw a hit from hermia.com. On visiting the site I saw that it appeared to have a full (and pretty up to date) version of the ODP (though I could see no attribution). Did a couple of searches on some pet keyphrases and had some good rankings - but they appeared to be 'spider' results - not ODP descriptions. Went to check my listing in their version of the ODP data in the section:
Computers/Internet/WWW/Website_Promotion/Search_Engine_Submitting_and_Positioning/Ranking_Services/ and where I am normally listed (as MakeMeTop) had changed to MakeMeHermia.com (MadeMeChoke!) Yep, my description from ODP was there but I suddenly had been re-invented. Looked at a few more sites that I know from the ODP listings and a load of other names had changed to hermia - getonhermia.com sixhermia.com etc etc.

Are they allowed to do this? Does ODP allow them to do this to their data? Has your favorite listing changed to a bizarre hermia link? What, if anything, should we do about it (apart from let people know)?

ODP has been known about this since 17/Dec/1999

I'm not sure if they copied or were just mining dmoz.
