Sounds great. I'm a bit new to this forum - is this an open invite? I would really like to attend.

>is this an open invite?
It certainly is, the more the merrier. It would be great1 if a lot of newer members attend, lurkers are more than welcome!
1 I keep having nightmares about getting pinned in a corner for hours by some grizzled veteran who wants to talk about how they cracked the Excite algo in 96.:)

Weekend in London?
New Members Invited?
7:57 am on Jun 13, 2001 (gmt 0)
I'm so upset I can't go, I'm going to drown myself in all this cheap Czech beer!
3:07 pm on Jun 13, 2001 (gmt 0)
It will be good to finally meet you all - is there going to be enough room? It's going to be a very useful day! We should do this more often...

Welcome to WmW freshegg
I'm told that the private room has a capacity of 60.
When we annouce a special guest, we hope to fill it.

Bummer, I have a wedding to go to that weekend. Anyone else unable to go fancy meeting another time?
There must be quite a few of us in London that would benefit from the occasional idea exchange. And the more excuses I have to go out for beer, the better.

If you wouldn't mind having a Yank attend, it's entirely possible that I will be in the UK during that time.
To confirm: July 21, Cittie of Yorke (HoIborn), Time? (Hey, I'm from the US, give me a break)

Yanks from California have an exemption due to the energy situation. Welcome to WmW

I think it would be a good idea to have name tags with our nicks on, to get the ball rolling. I mean, when we get to London, not just for everyday in the office, that would be stupid.
8:29 am on Jun 15, 2001 (gmt 0)
Yes sounds like a good idea to me.

bbgal: The time is from 1 pm until closing. More details and links in the first part of this discussion [webmasterworld.com]. Mike tells me you want to know about European search engines [webmasterworld.com]. I'll be there fully prepared to share all my hard earned knowledge. Don't forget to list yourself in the confirmed attendees discussion [webmasterworld.com] when you have decided.

Are there any more cost issues we need to consider?
- A room/bar has been booked (has this been covered? should we all contribute?)
- Food/drink (does the pub need to know numbers/orders etc)
1:48 pm on Jun 15, 2001 (gmt 0)
>A room/bar has been booked (has this been covered? should we all contribute?)
The room is covered, all you need to bring is yourself:)
>Food/drink (does the pub need to know numbers/orders etc)
We are OK on that, the main Pub will be open as normal so food and drink will be freely available, that is the only thing you will need any money for.
1:55 pm on Jun 15, 2001 (gmt 0)
To be more specific:
The Internet Advertsing Corporation will pick up the room.
GoToUK, Ltd will "buy a few beers"
[few is the operative word]
We are working on others to help with the food.

Those posting confirmation to PubCon in here [webmasterworld.com...] will be lucky enough to have official badges prepared. ;)

I haven't had the opportunity, until now, to give a warm welcome to all the new members here at WebmasterWorld that have posted in this thread or in the confirmation of attendance [webmasterworld.com] thread.
Delighted to see you here.
I know we're all looking forward to this event, to meet up and network, and to enjoy ourselves into the bargain. I'm pretty certain we'll all learn a great deal from each other.
Watch this space for further announcements and, we'll see you on the 21st.

And, to help spread the word, there's the official WebmasterWorld Internet Marketing PubConference site which was conceived, ummm, 2 days ago. Check it out! (Rule #1 is to have a marketable, memorable url, so it's....)

So when are you going to let the kat out of the bag - who's the special guest ?
Here's a few guesses ?
1. Micheal Portillio - needs all the friends that he can get at the moment !
2. Bill Gates - with his how to get rich quick scheme's
3. Systems operator of WMW - na !
Go on when are you going to spill the beans ?
As long as they buy beer and another beer and more beer - it's got to be worth it.

i just won't be able to make the meet. I'm really gutted - would there be any chance of a report being posted afterwards???
1:47 pm on Jun 20, 2001 (gmt 0)
>report being posted afterwards
As this is an informal conference there is no set agenda, instead we have a peer-to-peer event where the participants decide what they wish to discuss. Each attendee will will get out of it what he/she puts into it. Each attendee will ask specific guests and other attendee's what they wish and get answers that may help them market on the web.
With that in mind we could start a thread on July 22nd and let each attendee &/or guest report what he/she learned. I doubt that joint ventures or other collaborative co-conspiracies will be reported.

>With that in mind we could start a thread on July 22nd and let each attendee &/or guest report what he/she learned.
Somehow, I don't think we'll be able to stop that from happening.
>I doubt that joint ventures or other collaborative co-conspiracies will be reported.
I'm hoping to remember to bring the Mavica and toss up a few reputation-damaging photos afterwards. Putting them up will not involve any sort of fee schedule.
In all seriousness, the 'promoters' (kudos to them, btw, they have done an incredible job) of this conference have done what most others are afraid -or unwilling- to try; put together a 'freestyle' conference. It's designed for raw, hardball networking. If you have questions, bring 'em. If you have answers, bring 'em. It's a forum come to life.

I would love to attend - if newbies are accepted:)
To partly earn my invitation, I can tell you a bit about the pub venue - I've spent a number of evenings in there. Its traditional english in style, the back room is deceptively large with a long bar and on the other side of the room is a row of private booths which you don't see very often - nice touch!.
For lager drinkers, I can firmly reccommend the mock Bavarian brew (Ayingerbrau) they offer - it comes in 2 strengths and its cheap. More importantly, its most excellent and should serve as an ideal social lubricant. Especially, the pils version which is very potent(at least by my standards):)
The bar staff are very friendly, invariably Aussies & Kiwis and the atmostphere is very pleasant and relaxed. Also, since the big occasion is on a Saturday, the city is quiet so we should have the run of the place.
I promise I am not a shareholder in this pub.
I look forward to being in such esteemed company.

>report being posted afterwards
Let's face it. Much of the info exchanged at this event is going to be so juicy that it simply cannot be reproduced in writing. There will be a lot of "don't tell anyone, but Altavista [whisper]" and similar.
On a happier note:
By courtesy of Siljan Tourism [siljan-dalarna.com] of Rättvik, Sweden a hand made souvenir Dalecarlian horse will be given by me to every participant who has ever posted in the European Forum. It will be equipped with a removeable piece of string and a safety pin, to be worn proudly at the event and signifying great savoir faire and community spirit. Excellent news and ties in nicely with Plan B should numbers exceed the front bars capacity.
stavs don't forget to confirm [webmasterworld.com].

Will there be anything happening on the Friday? I looked on the website and it only mentioned the Saturday and Sunday...
9:34 am on Jun 24, 2001 (gmt 0)
I'm sure something can be arranged for Friday, beer pubs and clubs - sort of thing.
There maybe idea's floating around on many forums here.
If not, then it's got to be a magical mystery tour round london.
Know loads of cool bars - so if people want to do the friday thing london style, i have many well troding routes that can be done - old street, soho, angel or something alone them lines.
I will be London on Friday 20th, So if anybody else is up for meeting and seeing the sights with them alcoholic glasses on - lets do it.
