After years and years of fine tuning standard SEO tactics being content, content & content. Wanadoo is taking the 1st steps in finally putting the nail in the coffin.. 3 pages of PPC results before they hit the standard serps..

Now we have money based content, most of it tripe, lets hope google, aol, msn and others dont take the easy way out and start feeding PPC as their main search results.

Shocking!

BTW have you seen their home page? [wanadoo.co.uk...]

A masterpiece of bad design!

Lots of small search portals do the same thing, the problem the big players have is that they need to give relevant results or they will lose their user base in one fell swoop.

This has been going on for a good amount of time at Freeserve/Wanadoo. As MSN is developing their own search engine, Yahoo now have their own and Google still dominating, I see this continuing for quite a long time.

If not I am handy with PPC as well :)

I searched in my narrow field and found the absolute worst set of results I have ever seen.
Endless paid inclusion, I can tell by who is included, gently sprinkled with the worst keyword spammers in my field, paid or not. I can't imagine anyone using this engine to look something up unless they are brain-dead. - Larry

I beg to differ for msn & yahoo, while google i think will hold true to their purist priciples i guess.

We have all tried to do the right things regarding SEO as set down by webmasterworlds invaluble help over the years.

While we as webmasters know the content these portals are giving tripe results.. the population does not!

I'll be emailing wanadoo expressing my disgust.. Hooray for google, at least they wack them on the side.

Actually, it's not that bad. At least they abandoned tables and attempted a true CSS design...

MSN did this about 2 years ago and then switched back to pure SE results, it may be great for the bottom line buttttt it kills the web.

Their customers automatically get wanadoo.co.uk as their homepage and most don't know how to change it and never do. A little search box, millions of novice users, some paid results, and presto - instant revenue stream. I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner... No good to anyone and it won't last (hopefully) but you can't argue with the logic.

They did - it has been this way for a long time - over a year.....

I Agree the site design is soooooo bad (visually) - not a nice place to start the web for millions of users each day :(
