<a marketing company> tell me that Lycos premium links have XX,XXX number of impressions per month for my search term. However, I have seen reports of people who are very dissatisfied with Premium Link clickthroughs from Lycos.
There have been some people on WW in the past that claimed the search totals given by Touch are totally misrepresentative, and actually taken from Overture's search term suggestion tool!
If Lycos say "impressions", they had better mean impressions, or that is false advertising.
Does anyone have more recent experience of Lycos Premium Links, and what sort of ROI they can give?

I don't think that Lycos even rates as a search engine in Ireland and I would guess that in the UK, the primary SEs are Google, Yahoo, MSN. It seems from the post that the marketing company is making the claim rather than Lycos. If that is the case, then don't waste the money without checking the claims.
From my logs, about 1% of referrals come from Lycos UK. Around 1% of those click on Premium Listings (although I have only got these on 3 competitive sites - client insisted). You should be able to work out the figures from that.
I would check whether the numbers that they give you are in fact just the total Overture numbers for the previous month. If we are talking about the same company, then they have used this very deceptive method before (i.e. they lie about how much traffic Lycos gets).
A customer of mine had a call 2/3 weeks ago regarding setting up premium positions on Lycos, and contacted me to pursue the issue - the examples of keyword listings the company gave on the telephone did not correspond to the results shown on the Lycos website and that combined with a number of other factors, such as lack of company website or available details on the web showed them to be IMO a dodgy company offering a dodgy service.
I have a Premium Link on Lycos, and being 100% honest I do not think I get anything from it - which is surprising given the amount I paid for it (and the keyphrase used)
I would seriously consider this before committing yourself - maybe some industries will provide better results? I do know though from personal experience where the majority of my visitors come from, and that is NOT the premium link! :)
