Stupid newbie Question... How do i submit my website to Search Engines

Yeah newbie here. Could some one give me some trick on how to submit my webpage to the various webpages?
I have submited a google site map to google but still not listing. Ironicaly when I type Site:www.mysite.com it comes back with sites to which I have link exhcanges with but not mine. Whats up with that?

Hey Jackblack,

Welcome to WW (just in case no one said that yet).

Here's the trick: There is no trick. ;-)

The SE's like to find your site by crawling the Web and following links from other good sites that link to your site.

WRT to G site maps, they can help G 'know' which pages you think are more important or need spidering more often, but as far as getting featured in the SE's, getting great inbound links from quality sites is the best way to go.

And if your really desperate just click on submit your site, for google click on about google and youll find it.

Go for more incoming links and make sure your webpages carry internal links to all your other pages.
