when I do a google or yahoo search for certain keywords, many thousands or even millions of results are returned. My website is in this long list somewhere, but how to find out where? Any tools I can use to tell me where my site ranks in the results of a keyword search? Thanks.

You could see if you are in the top 100 in google by going into 'advanced search' and change the '10 results' to 100 results' then type in 'ctrl f' and type in your url. If you are in the top 100 it will be highlighted.

I really would divert my energy into promoting it, rather than trying to find it.

It's clear that it is way down there and the only way is up.

This Google link gives you 100 results per page, but without descriptions: [google.com...]

If your link is already highlighted, it's pretty easy to scroll through hundreds of results quickly.
