Multiple Occurrences of Hyphen or Underscore
do the search engines choke, or swallow?

My URL's happen to have many occurrences of hyphens or underscores in a row, due to special characters often appearing in the URL.

So, a URL which would normally look like so:
domain.com/script?product=blah‡-black-®blue

... is looking like so:
domain.com/script?product=blah_____-black-_____blue

Yes, this is pretty much a hack job, but I needed to do it as I couldn't come up with a way to work around special characters.

Any opinion on this?

it's fine... seen many instances where this has worked.

I don't think there will be any advantages or disadvantages, i wouldn't worry about it.
