How good are you...?
Your best ranking...?

 7:35 pm on Sep 29, 2003 (gmt 0)

Just a bit of fun to get an idea of who can do what around here... :)

whats your best piece of SEO work? - by that i mean rank, number of competing pages and the PR of the page. Anyone can get number 1 with a PR of 8 and only 10,000 competing pages... :)

I have a number 4 of 1.6 million, pr 5 - only ok - but not bad considering the PR...

howz about you guys? What are you most proud of?

 9:14 am on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

Out of 3,160,000:

#1 PR2
#2 PR-none
#6 PR-none
#7 PR-none

Two word phrase (widgets accessories), might be valuable, rankings are purely coincidential. Maybe one day I round up these accidental high rankings and do something with them ;) any ideas?

 9:19 am on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

sell some accessories perhaps kilroy? :-)

 9:53 am on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

yeah, I guess I should... hmm let me check the traffic through that!

 10:25 am on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

hmm, ok, only got 4 refferals last week, but then again I don't know when I got the ranking, so might just have gone up...

Anyways, doesn't look like it's worth it... even though the four his where on the #7 ranking. I currently don't have access to the logs of the other 5 sites.. hmmm.... how representative is this?

#3 out of 22,400,000 for a two-word KWP; PR6.

 2:41 pm on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

#2 of 7,000,000 PR5
#3 of 3,000,000 PR5
(booby prize for longevity -- #15 out of 41,000,000 - not touched or tweaked for over 3 years slipped slowly from #2...)

 3:11 pm on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

OK, I just got a lot better: #3 out of 36,800,000 on -fi, no, wait, #3 out of 45,300,000 on www2! (Still talking about the two-word KWP from my post above.)

This, plus one dollar, will likely pay for a nice cup of coffee...

 7:25 pm on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

#3 out of 30.9 million
#1 out of 46.6 million

2-word keyword(s).

 7:42 pm on Oct 20, 2003 (gmt 0)

#2 out of 5.3 million / PR=5 (last I looked)

One-word keyword (it's a band's name) and the #1 is the official site which should always come up No. 1. (IMO)

 4:37 pm on Oct 21, 2003 (gmt 0)

3# out of 6,270,000
9# out of 5,670,000

PR7 for both

 8:00 pm on Oct 21, 2003 (gmt 0)

PR of 3 6.8 million and i'm number 9. Not bad for a beginner

 8:44 pm on Oct 21, 2003 (gmt 0)

Come on guys-n-gals if you are into SEO surely words are important to you ...

if its more than one word targetted then it cannot be a key word can it ... surely it is then a key term :-)

Yes lets be pedantic!

 8:51 pm on Oct 21, 2003 (gmt 0)

Just optimized a page 2wks ago and it is now:

#8 out of 1.9 million
PR 5

This stuff is a cinch. Even a lawyer can do it ;)

 1:56 pm on Oct 22, 2003 (gmt 0)

Main phrase: #124 over 12 million and lot of work ahead, secondary phrases doing well :)

It's not only how many players in, there are terms very competitives with only 100,000 results and guys showing 20,000 backlinks!

 2:32 pm on Oct 22, 2003 (gmt 0)

#4, PR 4, out of 14.6 million results for a 2 keyword phrase.

#6 out of 14.4 million for the same words in reverse order.

Only wrote this page recently and it was a pleasant surprise to see it become one of the top pages on the site in its first month :).

If only it was always that simple...

 5:15 pm on Oct 22, 2003 (gmt 0)

I have a PR4 with a #4 ranking out of 5.57 million results and the same PR4 is ranked #16 out of 18.7 million results for another keyword phrase. We are now getting, for the first time, more traffic from Google than any other engine and it is definately generating income. The site has about 100 pages.

Also have a second site which was designed in under 2 hours and just submitted to Google last month and is now ranked #3 out of 124,000 results.

 12:30 pm on Oct 23, 2003 (gmt 0)

Results 1 - 10 of about 15,800,000 - position 8 from PR5.
However earn more money from position 2 out of 599,000.

OK - my question to everyone:

Has anyone created a PR7 without paying for premium advertising space?

 9:47 pm on Oct 25, 2003 (gmt 0)

#1 out of 32,400,000 (PR7)
#3 out of 6,510,000 (PR5)

layer8 - Yeah... I have a PR7 (I think it might be borderline PR8, but hard to tell for certain), never paid for links (we also don't do any link exchanging).

Shawn, need to ask a personal question - how long did it take you?

 4:54 pm on Oct 26, 2003 (gmt 0)

Hard to say... we never tried to do it... It was just a matter of people linking to us because they liked our products and services. Same as how CNN got such a high PageRank (just on a smaller scale).

Our products and services are things like billing/accounting software for ISPs, domain management software, etc. Commercial products we developed on our own. And we get a lot of links from our freebie services (like our keyword tracker).

It was done over a long time... although if we were *trying* to get links, I'm sure it would have been quicker. I have no idea when it went to PR7, because the first time I even looked it was PR7 already to begin with.
