Well that and the fact we've read their Terms & Conditions which prohibit using automated submission tools... :)

You are much better off submitting by hand.
If you are able to get into DMOZ you'll go a long way towards getting into just about every engine worth mentioning.

It is totally amazing how many ppl actually buy into the submission programs. If I was a scammer, that's exactly what I'd be scamming...That and webhosting. Lucky for you, I'm not.
PS - I know someone who's never submitted a darn thing and has only put his sites in the forums homepage http:// slot. His sites are listed in all major searches.

Submission software is worthless.
Hand submission to all the major engines takes about 10 minutes.
The major directories, about 20 minutes (depending on how fast you are at finding the proper category, and creating good titles/descriptions).
I wouldn't suggest buying a $30 submission program to do a one-time job of 30 minutes work. Kinda silly.

As it is mentioned above, Hand submission is the only way to go for the major SE. But if you want to use a software to submit to virtecal directories, I think that will be ok. Because there are so many of them.
