Well, without having paid for inclusion anywhere, my employer's site sees loads more traffic from MSN than from the other three put together.

US based? Probably MSN.
Europe? Preferably both. If only one of the two it depends on the country. In Germany ATW brings you on T-online and Lycos, two of the biggies here. Similar in some other countries.

Starting some time in August Inktomi started spidering most of the web. I never paid one cent for inclusion, now about 10% of my SE hits come from MSN (I am sure Inktomi, not Zeal, as they are hits to deep pages). So I wonder what more you get for paying Inktomi.

Mohamad, What you get for paying for Inktomi is guaranteed inclusion, and 2 day spidering. Good if your content changes a lot and you are not getting spidered daily or so by Google. Good for new pages that are not indexed. There is no advantage for your ranking. At one time, people were reporting that they lost ranking when they started paying - maybe some glitch in the system. At least that was the situation a year ago. Somebody tell us if i am wrong.

RaraAvis, Many people, myself included, have been successful getting sites into INK's DB without having to pay their registration fees. It is, for the most part, pot-luck. Get your site ranking well in Google, work on link pop in INK, then sit back and wait.....it will most likely be included for free if you are patient.
