Hi fellow Mac user,

I feel we are a minority within this community. I have no complex about it, others will eventually catch up, someday. ;)

This thread was meant so we just know each other a little better. Please, no links...

Recent "switcher" as of October 1st - Interview.

Name: ****
Who pulled the switch: 12" RevB PowerBook
Why it pulled the switch: Funny story... Let's just say we were "wrestling".
What happened to the switch: It broke after being pulled.
Why the "hush-hush": If MS finds out the switch broke once pulled, they'll come after me because it can't be switched back now. Because of a "windows glitch", my life still belongs to them for another 2 months. Please don't tell.
This little 12" sounds like a strong fella: You bet. After it beat the crap out of me, it pumelled my... *<whisper>*PC desktop.. 5 times it's size*</whisper>*... That was off the record, right?
We make no garuntees: Oh god. I better go.

madmac, I feel I should let you know that your IP address has been recorded, and that information is being forwarded to Microsoft, along with your full name, social security number, the name of the grade school you attended, the name of your firstborn, and the story behind that little scar just below your right ear. ;)

Hi Fellow Macaholics,

I am barely surviving with my PowerMac 8500 OS 9 on a 33.6 modem--56K burned out and I can't get DSL in my part of town. I need a new computer and fast. Dirving me crazy waiting for web pages to load and I surf the net about 25% of my waking hours.

I use Photoshop and Fireworks for graphic design and write all my code by hand. I started out volunteering on a large Christian site and then went to college and took internet classes along with my BA in English and then worked for temp companies before starting my own web design business 4 years ago.

Name: Lori
Lives: In Spokane--I just shoveled 6" of snow off driveway.
Sex: Single--looking for Mr. Right--preferably a computer programmer being as I flunked that in college.
Language: English and a little Hebrew.
Occupation: Self-employed web designer specializing in SEO and graphic design.
Hobbies: Amateur astrologer and critiqing false prophets (yes, I'm a strange bird).
Pets: my landlord shoots cats so I opted out.

One Mac problem I would like solved--I get real tired of using my text editor to design sites then viewing it in the browser and then uploading it with fetch and having to go open the same file multiples of times for each application I open. Isn't there a program that will do that automatically?

I'm glad to see lots of Mac users here. I'll quit this business before I ever switch to a PC.

>I'm glad to see lots of Mac users here.

Hey, i guess we all have reason to be glad about that. :)

>editor to design sites

I use Golive [adobe.com] (erm, still the ole version 3 on os 9). But since Golive same as DreamWeaver [macromedia.com] produces a real html code mess if you save your pages in wysiwyg mode, i just use it for the initial design phase. After the design is done i either use Golive in html mode or BBedit (love it). The good thing with Golive is, once the pages are uploaded (build in ftp client), you can open them directly through the ftp client and save them back to the server. Just like they would be on your hd. And Golive has some nice features for structuring your sites in projects.

However, there are people who prefer DreamWeaver over Golive ... and vice versa. (:

(2) old TiBook which is being passed on to said company in part exchange (just got it back because they crashed it in first day trying to restart in Mac OS 9 to file share their old files across - hadn't heard of firewire target mode! - tried (badly) to reinstall software and it now won't start at all, so I need to do some remedial work to fix their balls-up!)

Greetings & Salutations.

Name: 'Bill,' 'Mr. Man,' 'Hey You!,' 'Dick' (don't ask), 'Sir,' 'Outta My Way, You...'

Native Language: Baby talk, but I was forced to learn English by a cruel society intent on bending me to its will.

Location: Pinnacle of Western Civilization, Peak of Consumer/Capitalist Society -- Los Angeles, CA USA (sort of like a mid-period JG Ballard novel from the '60s).

Occupation: Currently web developer for a tiny subsidiary of a large subsidiary of an enormous multinational conglomerate. This affords me the luxury of new toys (I love my G5). Plus, I'm far enough away from the Death Star of Our Corporate Overlords that I can easily evade the mandated IT policy of all-windows-all-the-time. (If they knew that I just swapped out an IBM webserver for a dual-G4 XServe running Apache and PHP they'd have my head on a pike outside the city walls.) Former jobs include record producer, audio engineer, graphic designer, editor, researcher, typesetter, furniture mover, bartender, voice guy, desktop publisher, word processor, actor, messenger and layabout (volunteer position).

Sex: (Insert obvious joke [ahem]) -- Yes, please.

First Mac: 512K Fat Mac in 1985. I sprung for the extra 128K of RAM so I could run MacWord and MacPaint at the same time. Also paid $400 for the external 400K (single-sided) floppy drive, so I could run said apps without swapping floppies 20x just to load 'em. I bought the machine so I could do music sequencing, then had to wait two years for an application that would do what I wanted. Jumping the gun again...

Pets: Large aquarium with crystal clear water, "Diver Dan" bubbler (ask your parents), colored pebbles. Contains one (1) can tuna, one (1) can salmon and one (1) can sardines. Low maintenance and the fish get along just fine.

Hobbies: www.mystupidlife.com (untouched for a while and getting stale -- suggestions, submissions welcome)

Dark Secret: I do most of my development on a <gasp>PC</gasp>, using phpED, and debug remotely using dbg. If someone would create a Mac/PHP IDE that comes close to the speed/features/stability of phpED, I'd switch in a minute. (And Zend's IDE doesn't even <run> on Panther, yet. What's that about?)
