What would be the best way to go about creating a forum, ive heard much about using an extension, but i would favour to do it myself? whats the best way?

Easiest way is to download something like phpBB and install it, you need a mysql database and php for that though. Unless you want to write one from scratch!

I doubt it really matters where you put the forum. Are you under the impression it matters for SEO purposes?

Have a look at vbulletin or phpBB - what do you mean by extension?

I recommend IkonBoard easy to install on *nix servers and mined with alot of features.

Second guessing ur real intent for the BB question, webmasterworld bulliting board BestBBS v3.11 seems ideal for search engines as the pages are all html based which stays traditional to what is now an all perl/cgi based technolgy.
