Autosend remainders...
How to remind someone of an appointment?

 8:03 pm on Feb 3, 2005 (gmt 0)

What will I need to do in order to send a message to remind someone of an appointment.

Lets say that the users of a webbased booking system can enter the site and decide a date that the should do something. This is then stored in a database. How do I do in order to send a reminder to that person to tell him/her "Tomorrow is your turn..".

The datasbase will be stored at a server that we are not running ourself, that is we buy the space and access to it.

Is it possible and how?

If you have access to the server itself through Terminal Server or something alike, you could run a page on the server that refreshes itself every minute or so.

Another option is to use another computer that's always online to either do the same, or to run a program that fetches a page from the webserver.

Are you using SQL Server as your database? If the answer is yes then look at firing a nightly Job to deliver the interactions.

Does this nightly job function work on a MySQL database server which I access through a webbased interface?

Is there any providers that provides with this kind of "run a page at a certain time" service, that is "i want you to go to this page each day at 05.00 am" and then they deliver that functionality?

Use a scheduled task (located in your control panel on windows) to launch your browser at a specified time. The browser will run the page, and you'll have job complete.
